Best Pag Restaurants: A Guide for the Most Delicious Island Meals

 

Pag restaurants are famous for their delicious food, served in a unique island setting. But which of them are the best of the best – the ones you should not miss?

Restaurant and tavern Boskinac

If you’re looking for best Pag restaurants, do not skip Boškinac! It’s one of the most romantic restaurants Pag has to offer, if not the whole Zadar region. The fact that it’s paired with a gorgeous winery and a tavern is a big plus. The restaurant has cooked up a fusion of local and international food and with it they serve exclusively their own vino and spirits. The restaurant has a Michelin star, so it’s a bit of a pricier option.

It’s open during spring, summer and autumn. Make sure you have a reservation during the summer season. You can try showing up without it, but you better hope it’s your lucky day if you want to get a table.

La paloma

One of the restaurants on this best Pag restaurants list happens to be Italian: La Paloma. It’s located in the center of Novalja: you can find it in one of the narrow streets leading from the main square. It’s one of the best restaurants for when you’re craving excellent pizza or some other Italian dish.

They have a really nice summer terrace hidden away in deep shade, surrounded by wild vines.

Pizzeria Papillon

This pizzeria is situated only 70 meters from Sunwell Apartments and 100 meters from the local beach in Kolanjski Gajac.

It’s a small local restaurant that offers very good pizza, as well as great salads and vegan burgers. The restaurants Pag is most known for take great pride in their friendly service and home-prepared, locally sourced food – so it’s no surprise that this restaurants’ friendly owners are the ones making the meals.

It’s open during the summer months.

Tavern Didova kuca (Grampa’s house)

It’s impossible to make a list of best Pag restaurants without mentioning its popular taverns. This one is located in a small town Šimuni, approx. a 15-minute drive away from Sunwell apartments.

The spacious summer terrace opens up to a view of Šimuni’s waterfront, with its harbor and bay.

Can you imagine how gorgeous the sunsets are?

Apart from the ambiance, excellent homemade recipes are prepared in a modern way. Friendly staff and nice Croatian wine just add to the whole experience

Tavern Starac i more (Tavern Old man and the sea)

If you’ve been to any Pag restaurant before, we bet it was this one. It’s that well known!

Since last year,  Tavern Starac i more has been located in a new location in Novalja, right next to the coastline/promenade.

Compared to previous years, it’s opted for a much more modern setting. Food remains just as delicious.

An excellent fish restaurant, which offers fresh fish, live clams, and seafood, and a very rich wine list. It does cater to slightly deeper pockets, but you won’t regret the price because you’ll get great food and service.

Tavern Giardin

This tavern makes excellent local specialties and serves local wine. You will find it in village Kolan, a 10-minute drive away from Sunwell Apartments.

As far as we know, its doors are open all year round, but if you’re visiting the island outside of the main summer season, make sure to check the restaurants’ opening hours.

Restaurant Stari Kaštel

This Pag restaurant will knock your socks off with its location! If you want to eat in the very center of Novalja, with a view of the waterfront and harbor, then you must visit the newly renovated restaurant Stari Kastel.

It offers what can be described as a mix of Pag-Dalmatian-Italian cuisine. Very delicious! But if you want to try some Croatian classics, they prepare those too. No matter what you choose, you will eat well and enjoy the pretty ambiance.
