Where to shop in Novalja and Gajac – Nearest shops

Where is the nearest store? That is one of the most common questions we get not only from our guests, but also from those who want to book an apartment.
So, we have decided to provide all the necessary information and location regarding the nearest grocery stores, drugstores, pharmacies, gas stations and places to buy clothes and other necessities.

Our recommendations are based on personal experiences and perceptions.
Nearest stores in Gajac / Kolanjski Gajac
The closest store to Sunwell apartments is Studenac – Lito.
It is a small grocery store, where you can buy all the basic groceries. Great for short walk from Sunwell.
It is only open during July and August.
Also, in front of the store during morning hours (July and August) you can find a stand with fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. We recommend buying there in comparison to fruit and vegetables from the store.

Center of Gajca
If you are in Gajac, or Kolanjski Gajac (link lokacije) there is another option is small grocery store “Trgovina Jež”, which is open all year round.
Next to the store is a café bar, owned by same owner, also open all year round.
Nice owner and his family members, who are locals, are always available if you need anything from the store.

It doesn’t work at full capacity during the off-season, but you can rely on this store if you need something urgently, or you are just passing by.
In the center of Gajac, close by to “Trgovina Jež” during the summer months (June, July, August, September) you can shop in another small store “Market Gajac”, which is located here.
Bakery, market, ATM
Next to the “Market Gajac”, there is also a bakery with fresh bread and pastries baked on the site, which is a big plus.
Also, during the summer months, in the morning hours on the main square in Gajac, you can find a stand with fresh fruit and vegetables from the Zadar area.
We recommend it, although you might pay a few cents or euros more than in the shops or supermarkets. Most of the fruit and vegetables offered at the stand are home-grown from local farms. You can see the location here.
Across from the “Trgovina Jez”, on the very edge of the main square (the center of Gajac), during the summer months, there is a fish stand with fresh fish. It is open during the morning hours, but it doesen’t have reliable wotking hours, so you may find it closed. See the location of the fish market here.
Unfortunately, until a few years ago, there were quite a few ATMs in the center of Gajac, but now there is only one near the center, and we do not recommend it unless it is absolutely necessary due to the high fees. However, here is the location if you need it.
If you need new equipment for beach, simple beach toys, or want to buy a souvenir, in the center of Gajac right next to the bakery there is a small store. We think you will find what you are looking for.
Where to buy in Novalja?
For larger shopping, whether for groceries or other things, you will have to get in the car or public transport and go to the nearby town Novalja.
Nearest supermarkets to Sunwell apartments are: Konzum, Plodine and Hiper Novalis.
Of the three supermarkets mentioned, Hiper Novalis is the largest store, where you can find almost everything – from a needle to a locomotive. All stores work all year.
If you want to go down to the Novalja’s waterfront and the center, you will easily find another shopping-center Plodine. In addition to the supermarket, shoping center has other clothing stores and a pharmacy. The shopping center also has an underground garage (free parking during the off-season, paid parking during high season).
Right next to the waterfront there is also Tommy supermarket, and next to it is drugstore Bipa.
Novalja – market and other shops
Those who want fresh fruit, vegetables and fish can also visit the small market in Novalja. The market and fish market are located next to the Novalja marina in Knez Domagoj street, which works during morning hours. See market location here.
If you are eager to shop clothes and shoes in Novalja, don’t expect big offer. However, in the city center, you can find some nice shops with clothes, locally made souvenirs, jewellery and accessories. Be sure to visit the streets that surround central Trg Loža.
In the summer months, don’t miss the stands that stretch along the waterfront.
As for ATMs in Novalja, they are everywhere. However, in most shops, restaurants, bars and clubs you can pay with credit cards.
Pharmacies in Novalja
There are three pharmacies in Novalja. Nearest pharmacy to Sunwell apartment is located in the same building as the Novalja Health Center and Emergency Room (ER), on Spital Street.
The second pharmacy is located in the Plodine shopping center in Novalja. The third is in Dalmatinska Street in the center of Novalja.
As far as we know second and thid pharmacies do not have prescription drugs.
Gas stations in Novalja
The nearest gas station from Sunwell apartments is Tifon. It is located on the main road to Novalja near the turnoff to Gajac. It is open all year round.
The second nearest gas station is INA, which is located at the very entrance to Novalja next to the business zone.
Unfortunately, there are not many electric car charging stations, the closest one is here.
We also have unverified information that an EV charging station is also located at the Straško camp. If it exists, we are not sure whether it can only be used by guests of the Straško camp or is available to everyone.
